Date: November 04, 2024

Nordic business students participated in the Binaré-organized Hackathon to develop innovative exploitation and sustainability strategies for EXTRACT, showcasing their creativity and business potential.

On October 16th, the city of Pori hosted the Nordic Economic Students Union (NESU) Autumn Conference, a biannual event that brings together Nordic business students to collaborate and test their know-how on real-world cases. This time, and in collaboration with EXTRACT partner Binaré, a hackathon was organized proposing an ambitious challenge: to develop an Exploitation and Sustainability Plan that would ensure the long-term results of the EXTRACT project.

The students, divided into groups, worked on different markets where EXTRACT’s technology could play a significant role developing new solutions. Their mission was to present a plan that would guarantee the long-term impact of the project, its commercial viability and the possibility of a continued development. Despite having limited time, the students demonstrated their great energy, efficiency and capacity to innovate, presenting concrete solutions based on solid data. From ideas like “Solution to control masses at events” or “Chronic disease monitoring”, the different teams perfectly understood the challenge and presented promising ideas and plans.

Although the great quality of the different projects, the winner ideas followed two different paths:

  • In Environmental and Climate Management, group 1 presented a use case for “Forestation management for forest businesses and private forest owners” and a “Mountain glacier melting monitoring for ski resorts and tourism in Europe”. This proposal positions EXTRACT as a key player in climate adaptation, helping to address the challenges of a rapidly changing environment.
  • In Event Management, group 9 proposed the development of a “Platform for collecting, sharing and analysing sports event data”. This approach addresses the growing demands of modern sporting events, improving operational efficiency, optimizing resource allocation and ensuring security, enhancing the attendee experience and increasing the economic success of this events.

The success of this hackathon and of the Conference as whole culminated in a grand gala last Saturday, where the winners were announced. All the participants celebrated their good work, enjoying a great dinner and an impressive musical performance.

This opportunity to organize a hackathon proved to be a complete success, showcasing the creativity, talent and business capabilities of the Nordic students. The ambitious challenge of developing a long-term Exploitation and Sustainability plan resulted in numerous impressive solutions that highlighted the potential of EXTRACT’s technology across different markets.
